Thanks on behalf of our Ham community for the information about Kids Day.
This was our first year to follow through on this event and it was
considered successful for us. Our local 2 meter repeater trustee was more
than happy to allow the "CQ Kids Day" to be used on the machine, and we had
a number of local hams involved. Our youngest licensed was Jeremy, KG6EPW,
now 12 years old, but licensed at age 11. He was the first to call CQ and
quickly gathered a good number of ham contacts. Hemet is a retirement city,
with many "older" hams, so some were a little reluctant to give out their
age, which included 70 to 82 year olds. Oh yes, on average, the favorite
color is blue.

One of our YL's took her HT into the complex where she lives, and began
grabbing kids and putting them on the air. She had more fun than the kids I
think, but it exposed a good number of kids to Ham radio, though I am sure a
lot of them are still trying to figure out what happened. It was however, a
good experience. Next year we plan a much broader event, with more
participation.

To alert repeater users to the event, we announced through a QST, what was
happening, repeating the announcement several times during Thursday and
Friday, and at the beginning of the event. The .pdf file of the certificate
is great, and allows us to have immediate "rewards" for the event, so thanks
for making it available.

Im not sure yet what logs are available, but those that are will be
submitted to you soon for the record.

Overall, it was a great success, and we can hardly wait till next year.

Many thanks, and 73,
Ron Baker, WA6AZN
VP, Lee Deforest ARC of Hemet, CA.
