How can we get a list of amateur radio kids in general
and for N. VA, DC and MD; ideally teenage girls that my
daughter could QSO with?
Are there any kids nets?
I doubt it - and I think it would be asking for trouble to try to
set one up, given the strange people that one runs into on the air.
We encourage youngsters to get licenses, but if I had a teenage or
younger kid I would be very careful about letting them get on the
air on SSB. I've had one or two unpleasant experiences during
earlier Kids' Days, with people QRMing the kids and imitating them.
It's probably best to set up some skeds privately. The kids I've
done Kids' Day with were all on loan and aren't easy to track down
at short notice for skeds, but it might work. And I'd be happy to
set up skeds on CW with any youngsters any time, if they don't mind
QSOs with an old guy :-)
I did Kids' Day today, but there was not much activity and of course
condx are not the best right now. Still, my op Jessica (nearly 8)
had fun ragchewing with Jonathan (nearly 9) in NC (I don't have the
callsign handy, but it was a 2+1 with a 9 in it...).
