Today, I visited the QTH of George, W6SUN-SK in Pilot Hill (near Auburn). The executor of the estate wishes to sell George's 72' crank-up tower, antenna, and rotor.
As best as we can tell - the tower is a U.S. Tower HDX series 72' crank-up that includes the raising fixture. This tower is a hand-crank model (not motorized). It is still up and has been in service since 1990. It is in fine shape (no rust at all).
On top of this tower is a 6-element triband quad - probably one of the biggest HF antennas that I have ever seen. The booms looks to be on the order of 40' long! The rotor is an Orion OR-2300, which may be broken (the antenna is free-wheeling). For those of you that knew George, he was "Mr. Quad" around these parts and wrote an excellent book about designing and building quad antennas.
The estate hopes to recover $4,000 for the tower, antenna, and rotor. The purchaser would also be responsible for the task of taking it down as well.
If you might be interested, please e-mail me and I will pass along the contact information.
