I don't think you're dreaming much at all, Ray. Despite claims to the
contrary in the article, N6TR painstakingly wrote a contest robot program
some years ago. It wasn't as good as he is (who is?!) but it did work. With
Skimmer, it should be a lot easier to reach a comparable level of capability
and with more effort perhaps build a competition grade robot. I think we're
still a ways off from having a robot win a significant contest but recall
how recently "they" said no computer program would ever defeat the world
chess champion. Sigh.
Your suggestion for using Skimmer listening posts to nearly eliminate paper
QSLs is terrific! Who needs card checking when the judges can just listen to
the QSO. Or, better yet, simply have a central robot record the calls of all
parties to all QSOs and give credit automatically. I wouldn't count on ARRL
agreeing to it for a decade or so but the time will come.
