237 QSO's, 43 states, 20 countries, 6 hours
Total score 58,401
I mainly was looking for EU stations for DXCC
purposes. The first night, I worked 10 out
of several dozen heard. GM3POI at about 0600Z
was very strong and easily worked. Other EU
were difficult to raise, as others have reported.
MD4A and GM3POI were new countries. On Saturday
night, GM3POI was audible at sunset, but much
weaker. No other EU stations were heard that
night. I CQ'ed for a few hours Saturday night
and Sunday morning. If any EU's came back, I
didn't hear them. I don't think my EU beverage
is very effective. I could hear east coast stations
running EU with nothing heard here. My JA beverage seems to be
much more effective than my EU beverage, probably due
to more noise in that direction. I will continue with RX
antenna projects already in progress.
I ran 1.5 kW in this contest instead of low
power as in many other 160 meter contests. It
made a very noticable difference. When CQ'ing,
my rate was much better and on S&P, I usually
got through on the first call, at least for W/VE stations,
I also got more JA's calling.
