A memorial service for Marc Ziegler (W6ZZZ) was held yesterday at the
Loma Prieta Redwood Amphitheater in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The
setting was just beautiful and there were about 100 friends and
relatives who came to celebrate Marc's life.
The ceremony was officiated by Marc's Pastor, John Haak from Mountain
Bible Church, serving Los Gatos/Santa Cruz. Former and current
coworkers shared their personal stories about Marc's achievements at
GTE Sylvania and more recently at Elecraft. He was a very talented
engineer and loved ham radio. Over the years, Marc contributed his
time and talent to several amateur radio clubs in the Bay Area,
including NCCC and West Valley ARA, among others, and was actively
involved in RACES and ARES. West Valley ARA has received permission
to use W6ZZZ as their official club call in the future.
NCCC members attending included K6MM, K6TD, K6XX, KE6RAD, K9YC, N6BV,
N6DE, N6NZ, W6CT, and W6TQG -- I may have missed a few others. Kevin
(K6TD) spoke on behalf of NCCC, emphasizing Marc's many contributions
to our Club, especially his competitive devotion to the annual
Sweepstakes contest.
Marc participated in the organ donor program, and Reverend Haak
mentioned that 4 recipients are now on a much healthier path as a
result of his selfless giving. He shared one story in particular from
a gentleman who received a kidney from Marc, and is now able to lead
an active and more fulfilling life.
Marc was a clear thinker. Very bright, politically neutral, and
quietly effective. He is missed by all.
It was heartwarming to be part of the celebration Saturday. For those
who could not make it, I've uploaded some photos:
