The Short Story (missed NT both days for the sweep):

Saturday (AK6M): 855 x 79 = 135,090
Sunday (K6MM): 497 x 79 = 78,526
Total QSOs for the weekend: 1,352
SS-SSB club score contribution: 213,616 points

This weekend I had a chance to operate in "Shared Station" mode. I
spent Saturday at Tom's (N3ZZ) superstation in Cupertino. Tom is
recovering from shoulder surgery (wishing him a speedy recovery) and
so he offered his station to both Jim, K9YC and me for a split-
operation. I operated Saturday as AK6M and Jim operating today as
W6BX. We both had a great time -- thank you, Tom!

He has put together a great station, with two towers, and two
SteppIRs, as well as a 2-element 40M yagi. Running 1500 watts into
his antennas made this SS-Phone slugfest much more enjoyable. The
great conditions on 15M really helped to get away from the wall-to-
wall signals on 20M, and weaker stations were much easier to copy.

PVRC Watch: Just before 1:00 PM Saturday, I had a few warm-up QSOs on
15M, and ran into Jim, WX3B from PVRC. They're obviously paying close
attention to NCCC Logs, because he said "We were really surprised at
NCCC's strong turnout for SS-CW". All I could say was one word:
"Really?" : >)

Headset Report: The new Yamaha CM500 headset performed flawlessly.
Great reports, comfortable all weekend, good soundproofing. A real
bargain at $40 -- thanks again for the group purchase, Josh (W6XU).

This phone contest does take a toll on your senses (eyes, ears, mind
and body) -- yet it remains as one of the best training sessions for
sharpening your contest operating skills. But once a year is enough!

To all the KBers who are now reaching for that bottle of Tylenol
tonight: Great Job This Weekend!

Now we just have to get all the logs in before the deadline -- and
then we can relax.

73,
John K6MM
