Subject: CQP Club Competition

Nevertheless, this is how the rules were written, and I was not here when the rules were drafted.  All I see is what is published on the CQP site:

A Club is defined by the ARRL competition rules.

I have been very open about AA1ON as a guest operator for the past three CQP's.  I even brought it up a couple of years ago when a CQP representative spoke at one of our MLDXCC meetings.  Frankly, I think it is good for CQP, not only inviting guest operators but having stations operating during the entire 30 hours of the test.

I am very competitive and I love a good rivalry.  Frankly, and speaking just for myself, I'd love to see someone else other than MLDXCC win the club competition.  It will just result in getting more MLDXCC butts in the chair next time and result in more activity for CQP.

The way for a club to win the competition is to get butts in the chair, build good stations, and to follow the rules.  REDXA changed their geographic center to the Sacramento area and I'm fine with that.  It is within the rules.  Changing the rules in order to encourage a win for a competing club, however, just doesn't seem to be good sport.

Until the rules are changed, I will actively encourage the CQP team to accept the entire scores from my station, on behalf of MLDXCC, when I have guest operators.  I fully intend to invite my old YCCC buds out to operate in the future.  It makes contesting fun and it's good for CQP.

Now, lets focus on Sweepstakes.  I'd love to see all of the NCCC members - MLDXCC, REDXA, or whatever - focus on another gavel.

The ARRL definition of "club" is included by reference:

"Club Competition is encouraged.  Club members can submit their logs for
the club competition by entering the club name in the Cabrillo file
‘club’ field.  A Club is defined by the ARRL competition rules.  NCCC,
SCCC, NCDXC, and SCDXC are not eligible in the club competition."

This is probably a bit unwise, in that ARRL can change their definition
at will to something that may not suit CQP.  Should they do that, the
probability that its effect on CQP would not be noticed until a CQP had
passed and the issue had arisen is pretty high.
