Cherished colleagues,
I decided to perform an experiment for CQP this year, to test
the hypothesis that we've all heard :
"All multipliers will come to you if you RUN, RUN, RUN."
So, I called CQ all weekend, and operated without a single
S&P contact.(*)
Furthermore, I decided not to use packet or other spotting
assistance, to avoid being tempted to chase a multiplier.
Finally, I decided to run low power (100W).
Well, after the first hour of agony (#Q's = 44), I decided
to turn on the amplifier (1000-1200W); things got MUCH better
immediately (2d hour, #Q's 84).
The experiment continued without the low-power requirement.
Bottom line result : A new form of the hypothesis seems to
be justified :
"All multipliers except NT, QC, ND, and MS, will come to K6GT
if I RUN, RUN, RUN."
Score sheet:
3.5 53
7 61
14 340
21 274
28 100
Total 828
Claimed score = 118,879. Score contributed to MLDXCC
(*)The only thing approximating a S&P contact was when I
changed bands, returning to a previously held CQ-frequency.
If there was somebody there, I worked them, then moved
on to find a new CQ-frequency.
