Comments:
Well, we got the second tower up but did not get the big beam up. Instead, Jay, KE6GLA and one of our new members, loaned me a Cushcraft 10-15-20-40 meter rotatable dipole. Martin and I got it up before the contest and took it down right after the contest. At 50 feet above ground, on the edge of a cliff, let me say that this antenna gave us absolutely fantastic performance with the second radio operating at 100 watts. We had no problem working anyone, even the guys on back scatter and it did help our score.
We very carefully installed a new band switch in the AL-1200. I chatted with a friend on the east coast on 40 meters for about an hour and the amp was fine. The night before the contest I worked TT8TT on 20 Phone and it was fine. In the contest, on 20 meter phone it began to arc again with an SWR of 1.4:1. Arrrrr! We switched to the old trusty Henry 3KD and all was well.
As far as the contest was concerned, we did about 6K better than last year. I need a stack on 10 meters now. That seems to be the weak point at the station. Martin had a terrific 3 hour run on 20 phone on Saturday afternoon. I did just about 100% CW except in the middle of the night.
