Hello MLDXCC'ers,
This weekend is the North American QSO Party SSB contest. It's a NCCC focus contest, so those who participate should be sure to submit logs on behalf of NCCC, assuming you're a member.
I'm writing this primarily for our new members and new contesters. The ARRL Contest Update, a digital newsletter, probably can say it better than I can:
The SSB North American QSO Party this coming weekend is a fun way to spend a few hours and is particularly good for young and beginning operators - all you have to exchange is your name and state. Plus, you can work stations on each HF band from 160 through 10 for fun all day and night. It starts at 1800Z and you can operate for 10 of the next 12 hours, taking a break during those crucial playoff games!
I'll add that this contest limits power of participants to 100 watts. That means that those in the club, like W6HFM and W6DHN, both using TA-33JR's at terrific locations) will put out signals that are as good if not better than those of us who are used to operating with 1.5 KW, but can't in this contest. [Harry and Frank - not twisting your arms to operate. Just using you two as an example of stations that can do really good when limited to 100 watts]
I have found 10 meters to be a terrific band to spend some time on for this contest. The new hams seem to come out of the woodwork.
If you're a NCCC member, NCCC is in a club challenge with PVRC and SMC. The multiplier in the challenge is the total number of stations in each club operating in the contest. That means that even if you make one QSO, NCCC wants your points. It really makes the small stations and the casual operators feel wanted in this particular contest.
I'll be on, so if you hear me, let's exchange points.
Bob
