By now most of you have heard the W1AW/n operations.
The W1AW call sign is being put on the air by volunteer stations in each state during 2014 for the ARRL Centennial QSO Party. Each state will have two one week periods throughout 2014.
Southern California just finished their week.
The slot for Northern California is the week starting October 1 ending October 8 -- which includes CQP!
The goals for our week are to:
-Cover all band modes 24/7 for the entire week.
-Involve as many host stations as practically possible
-Ensure we give appropriate focus to band openings to the "hard" parts of the world from CA. Many DX hams are looking for the QSO Party awards and we want to cover the west coast openings.
-Have a slow speed CW operation-VHF/UHF coverage
-Provide an opportunity to learn how to run a pileup
-Involve as many local clubs as possible
The feedback from the participating stations is the pileups have been big!
We are fortunate in Northern
California to have so many great stations and I hope many of you will consider participating.
Before signing up, please consider:
-The station owner must be an ARRL member.
-The station owner will be responsible for securing the log and forwarding it to the coordinator daily.
If you are interested please reply via email to w1srd at arrl.net and indicate the date, hour(s), band and mode you would like to cover as well as a brief about your stations capabilities. From a practical perspective QRO is recommended.
During CQP we will likely feature the multi-op stations signing W1AW/6 on the contest bands. W1AW/6 stations will submit as a check log only for CQP. The WARC and digital slots will need to be covered during CQP as well.
This will be a great opportunity to showcase the best state QSO party!
For more info about the Centennial QSO Party rules see http://www.arrl.org/centennial-qso-party.
Please forward this email to any local clubs you belong to in Northern California.
Best 73,
Steve Dyer
