Hey there, MLDXCC'ers,
Just a reminder that this weekend, and beginning Friday at 4 PM our time, is the CQWW DX CW contest.
We will always encourage members to work the contest and submit on behalf of MLDXCC, but realistically, this is a contest we can never play in seriously.  Unlike the ARRL contests, there is only one club category and this contest, in the US, is all about YCCC and FRC.  Nevertheless, we always seem to place around the middle of the pack, with a respectable club score.
For you phone-only guys, this would be a terrific opportunity to try out your CW decoders.  The DX will be plentiful.  Also, if you ever want to work them all, chances are you will never do it without having CW capability.  Since nearly every DX station in CQWW will be sending computer generated CW, your chances of working them with a CW decoder are pretty good.
N6JV and W6SRD seem to be our shining stars in CQWW.  Why not join them and make a few points for the Club.
Do check the rules.  The continental US is a country mult and that's all, so once you have worked the US, don't waste your time and by working more US stations.  They won't count for anything unless you need zones 3/4/5.  VE's, however, do count, so work all of the VE's you hear.  That's probably where you will get your zones 3/4/5 without slowing down some of the serious US players in CQWW who really do not want to work other stations in the continental US.  This is a contest I used to play in seriously on the East Coast, and it does slow you down when another US station calls.
Bob
