I wasn't sleeping well, so I thought I'd come into the shack. The VK9WA
team was there and in 5 minutes, they heard me too. I now have 8 bands
worked... I'm waiting to see if I can hear them on the last band, 160.
Unless I bring out the BIG tuner, I can only manage 225 watts there (I
can produce 600 max here). The KAT500 simply doesn't have enough to
manage with this non-resonant antenna on 160.
370' (112M) of wire, running roughly N/S, supported by oak trees at
25-40', center fed with ~70' of window line into a 4:1 common mode choke
(balun), 8' of coax into the K Line. (A double extended Zepp tuned for
80 meters, with 30' more wire added to make it align with what EZNec
said it should be.) Completely stealthy, it's on the HOA common
property and no one sees it; hidden in plain sight. The intent is to
specifically be NON-resonant on all bands so a tuner is required. (It
ROCKS on 40.)
If I can manage 160M with VK9WA (a band sweep), a complete slot sweep is
possible, I just need to get 80 phone and more RTTY slots. If I don't,
I'm still happy. I'm not being piggy, but I was curious just how far I
could push this antenna, they're a long ways away. Once I have the slot
in the log, I wait to confirm online. So far the team and I have agreed
on everything and I place ALL the credit on them, they're awesome.
160 M is the most challenging band here.
Current standing 15/20 band slots.
My latest ATNO from yesterday, Rwanda, is already confirmed in LOTW.
Those of us from the old days of waiting YEARS for possible buro cards
just grin at this.
73,
