Tom,
What is a good location that would work for you?
Jim has a good point.  My goal has been to have meetings generally around the East Bay.  For me, that's at least two hours of driving time, and for you, at least 4 hours.  Nevertheless, it is a location that works for the masses in our membership.
N6RK and the board at that time had tried one or two Valley meetings that did not have high attendance so I have been staying away from that other than the BBQ at Rich's place last year, which had a terrific turnout.
Also, I have got to recognize N6XI for his Sierra Chapter BBQ.  A wonderful idea and an event I certainly plan to attend.
Anyway, I think our Board will all agree that we're always open to suggestions.

Hi Tom,

Like you and Midge, I live at the edge of the NCCC circle. When a board
member, I did my best to find meeting locations that made it easy for
those outside the Bay area to attend. Several times someone suggested a
meeting in/near Santa Cruz, and I rejected the idea outright, because it
made it more difficult for most members to attend.

Perhaps you can suggest a meeting location (or at least a geographic
area) that would be more suitable. As to uniqueness and/or program
content -- I was asked to be part of the program for this one, but
declined because it conflicts with IOTA.

As to travel time -- a close meeting from Santa Cruz is 2 hours round
trip, 4 hours is average for a "joint" meeting, and this one is close to
5 hours. We make it work by car pooling -- with K6XX, K6GHA, KW6S,
N6NUL, W6GJB, and NI6T, we often need two cars. The great part of this
is the conversation during the trip.

73, Jim K9YC
