It is ARRL Sweepstakes time! It begins this weekend with CW (Nov 4-5),
and follows two weeks later with SSB (Nov 18-19). Complete rules are
here: http://www.arrl.org/files/file/ContestResults/2017/2017 ARRL
November Sweepstakes Package (Rev A - 12 July 2017).pdf
If you're not familiar with it, the object of the contest is to work
stations in the United States and Canada (including territories and
possessions). You can make contest contacts on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and
10 meters. Work as many ARRL and RAC sections as possible – there are 83
sections. For each contact, you provide them a specific sequence of
information, and they provide you with their string of information. You
don't have to operate both weekends. If you're not a CW op, focus on the
SSB weekend, and vice-versa.
The information you send is the serial number of the contact, what
category you are operating in (your category, not the club, see the
rules for different categories), your callsign, two digits indicating
year you were licensed, and what section you are in.
So if you were to call me, I might send 17 B NJ6G 11 SJV. That means you
are my 17th contact, I am in the Single Op High Power Category, my
callsign is NJ6G, I was licensed in 2011, and I am in the San Joaquin
Valley section. You would enter that in your log and then send me your
information in the same format. A contest logger such as N1MM+ provides
a ready-made custom screen for you to enter the exchange.
Mother Lode DX/Contest Club has won the medium club category the past
two years, we'd love to make it three in a row!
Remember that in the Medium Club category we are only allowed a combined
total of 50 logs. Any more than that places us into the Unlimited
category which we need to avoid. This differs from CQP, where we could
submit as many logs as we wanted and only the top 35 counted.
We cannot tell you to not submit your log for MLDXCC, but you can ask if
the club needs your points before you submit them. It is very important
that you let Bob W1RH know if you have submitted a log so he can track
how many we have.
If you are submitting points for the club, please make sure your entry
shows CLUB: Mother Lode DX/Contest Club.
An important change from previous years is that you now have only FIVE
DAYS to submit your log after each section of the contest. Time is of
the essence, so connect with Bob as quickly as you can.
Good luck in the contest! Dennis NJ6G
