One time my crank-up wouldn't move and it turned out to be a stretched belt between the motor and the gearbox. The belt was slipping, so the gears weren't moving. The spacing can be adjusted with some screws on a bracket - I don't remember it well enough to describe it but it was pretty obvious once I realized what was happening. By increasing the spacing between the two wheels just a tad, I got the belt tight again and all was well. This may not be your problem, of course.

Hi Jim,
As suggested by W6SR, I liberally applied WD40 to the winch gears last night. Tried lowering the tower this morning with no luck. I'll check closer for binding up above and try this again soon.
Fortunately, the storm isn't packing the winds originally predicted for Auburn today.
Thanks for the follow up - I'll be in touch.
