The article was written by several members of a club that suffered a narrow defeat for the small club gavel. (bad idea). It would have been much more reasonable to have it written by a more objective author.
So just for the record, if the NCCC had just missed getting the RTTY Roundup gavel, I would have written objectively and congratulated the victors - and perhaps a small dose of good natured sour grapes. I wouldn't expect the folks writing the two SS articles to do any less.**
That said, I don't actuall know who wrote the part about the club competition. It just says "Contest Branch". The article writers for SS phone and CW don't do it.
The harshest thing I can say about what they did write is that it was lazy, and even then I know they work hard and using that word seems unfair. The online version can be infinitely long, and throwing a couple sentences to say something nice about Medium and Local costs them only free bits. I think they just didn't think about it. Instead they beat the drum on participation, and used PVRC as a handy and familiar example.
So, I sent them a reminder... 73 jeff wk6i
