Darrel,

Experiment with different contests like ARRL DX to see if this
problem is associated with a given contest. I know some contests
do not work in the practice mode (the grid square contests). 

Also, pass along the version
of NA that you are using. I know the ARRL DX contest works and
displays the correct information in the practice.log. I have used
at least the last 5 versions of NA 10 in the practice mode.
