Another way to do it is to edit the file MSDOS.SYS which is a text file in 
Windows 95/98 which contains boot options.  Since it is a system, hidden, 
readonly file, you have to change the attributes before editing it and 
change them back afterwards.

Change the line that says "BootGUI=1" to "BootGUI=0" and it will boot just 
like any regular DOS machine (and will execute autoexec.bat).

The sequence is:
    ATTRIB -S -H -R msdos.sys
    edit the file
    ATTRIB +S +H +R msdos.sys
