Good condx Saturday, working DXCC in 48 hrs. Lowlights- As good as Saturday was, Sunday was poor. Hard to get anything started to Eu Sunday morning; packet pileups on every LU and JA Sunday afternoon. Not breaking 1000 q, after Saturday I really thought I had a good chance. The only real challenge was at 9 am Sat when Kathy handed a plate with breakfast durning the run on ten. Looking back I see that I ate durning a 100 Q hour. I had loaded up the DVP and S & P'ed the packet spots, letting my fingers do all the talking, IT WAS GREAT! I had to stop Sat at 4pm for a family get together and wasn't able to get back on until 9pm, the noise was so bad on the low bands that by 11pm it was time to quit. Did operate Sunday morning before church and got in 45 more minutes in the afternoon. Heard K8AZ, K8AL N8PW and N8TR all over the bands. Tom, Did W8AZ cause ya any problems? The N1LN in TX did for me. Sorry about not spoting much....the K8TME cluster dumped me dozens of times and reconnecting created more of a challange when it replied BUSY. Was operating on 10 meters (remember how good 10 was Sat AM!) everything looking good as far as the comp & alc driving the output. For reasons I can't explain after a few seconds of speech the meter climbs steadly without regard to voice peaks and stays fully pegged until unkeyed. Can't say what the output audio sound like but the watt meter shows a steady output. Readjusting the ALC has no effect. Change to any other band and it isn't a problem, come back in a few minutes and its fine for alittle while. This only happens on 10 meters. I saw this happen about 3 months ago but it stopped after one time and I thought nothing more of it until last Sat morning. Anyone have a idea, or know of a good place to get a tune-up? Conditions remained excellent during last weekend's ARRL SSB and our club score shows it. It appears that we have topped 50meg without several of our Big Gun regulars who were unable to participate. One aspect of our club entry must be noted. There was an outstanding effort by many of our newer, less experienced members. One only becomes a better contester by contesting and you guys have taken major steps in that direction. The NCC club total is much better because of your work. The 2001-2002 contest season still has a few enjoyable weekends left. WPX SSB and CW, various state QSO parties (MI and FLA) and IARU/WRTC are good ways to have fun and sharpen those skills. Speaking of WRTC, a recent e-mail from OH2BH has announced a major fund raising event to be held that will benefit WRTC. The organizing committee has had TWO airline ticket/hotel packages donated by SAS Airlines. The packages are to Helsinki and can be used during WRTC, but may be used outside the contest period. Start saving your $10 bills as I hope many of you will buy a raffle ticket to support this great event. Winners will be drawn at the Dayton Contest Dinner in May. QRX for more info. N3RA and I are currently planning an in-person meeting that will be held prior to Dayton. Details to follow. Hearing nothing from them on 3/4/02 - I called Mr. Tom Henshaw of AEP, who informed me that the repair order had been sent to Mr. Dave Booth for scheduling. Hearing nothing from Mr. Booth, I called him on Wednesday 3/6/02. He returned my call 3/7/02 and told me he would arrange required parts and have a crew repair pole on Friday morning (this date). Went home for lunch, checked the noise problem to find it still there / returned to office and called Mr. Booth & left message for him to return my call. I believe, and I have stated to Mr. Booth, that AEP management does not consider complaints of this nature important. I no longer have a sense of humor with regard to this 3 1/2 month problem. On my behalf, please proceed with any correspondence you deem necessary. Thank you for your help to date. 73, N8PW William H. Hannon 319 21st ST. We, N8TR, K8BBE & myself usually have two spaces in the Flea Market. Chuck, K8BBE usually does the groundwork in procuring the tickets and the spaces. He has received the tickets but he has also been told that they now require insurance to be purchased along with the Flea Market space - at a cost of $50 per space!. Chuck has been in contact with the officials and is trying to confirm this. Sounds like a good way to kill the Flea Market once and for all. I sprung for a 250Hz filter between the CQWW WPX and BARTG Contests. Boy, was that money well spent! . When you ask for a specific item from the exchange (for example - serial number) why do so many stations insist on sending the whole exchange over again - sometimes twice? . It took me a while to discover that off-frequency stations that I first thought were trying to take over my run frequency were actually stations calling me! I can only wonder how many I may have missed that were completely out of the pass band of my new filter. . For the first time ever, my rotators interfered with clean print while in motion. Perhaps I have a new ground loop problem? . Is there any way in RTTYRITE to quickly translate an unshifted letter group to the corresponding numbers? I do miss that capability from WF1B RTTY . Was surprised to encounter a few stations running what appeared to be 425Hz shift. . Never did find an opening to JA like I did in RTTY WPX. What a disappointment. . Had tremendous noise levels on 40 and 80 most of the contest. . Had brief periods of the worst precipitation static I have ever experienced on 20-15-10. Thank goodness at least they were brief. . Writelog was inconsistent in grabbing the portable designators from some stations. I suspect it has something to do with how the call is kept in the super check partial database. (Thanks to AA5AU for the cleaned up version of this file - I'm sure it helped a lot in this respect). Perhaps I'm more sensitive about this since I had to sign /8 for this contest. . Too many times stations calling me with their space tone exactly on my mark tone for this to be a casual coincidence - what's that all about? . How are others handling this situation: You can't copy the serial number from the other guy, while you see his time just fine. When you ask for a fill to get the serial number, he changes his time! I went with the second time stamp in each case, but then what to do when you get the serial number in the clear on the second transmission, but the time is garbled? Great contest despite the minor frustrations. There are still many gentlemen (and Ladies, too) on this mode. I hope that never changes. 333-3333 George, K3GP From k8dx@raex.com Thu Mar 28 02:20:04 2002 From: k8dx@raex.com (Scott Detloff K8DX) Date: Wed, 27 Mar 2002 21:20:04 -0500 Subject: [NCC] K3UA Message-ID: <008201c1d5ff$13367f80$d81bc4d8@oemcomputer> Anyone have a good e-mail address for Phil?
