Hi to all,
After a recent meeting (and a few 807's) with our fearless leader, W8CAR, it
was agreed that I would resume putting out the unquestionably popular "NCC
Stuff." It will be on a semi-irregular basis..in other words when events and
information warrant it's publication. I am planning on at least a monthly
harassment of the membership.
Another "restart" will be the NCC 75m net. We will meet on the air beginning
on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7:59pm on 3825. We have a lot of catching up, so
hope everyone can stop by to say "Hola."
NCC members have been busy in 2003:
The K8AZ m/s team swept both modes of the ARRL DX contest for the
second consecutive year. Huge congrats to Tom and the Boys for bringing home
"wood" once again.
K3LR did a great job of handling the Contest banquet at Dayton in the
absence of K1AR.
N8PW added a second IC-756 Pro II and solid state Icom Amp to his FB
station. These were purchased at Dayton.
K3LR outdid himself in organizing the W1AW/3 HQ operation for the IARU
contest in July. NCC'ers were joined by several members of SMC and FRC to
put up some great numbers despite terrible HF conditions. It was great to see
Tim's awesome station back on the air. He hopes to return to the air again for
CQWW SSB in October.
N3RA has or soon will break ground on a new QTH. Watch out for mass
quantities of RF coming from Scott's new place.
W8CAR and yours truly teamed up for a mobile entry during the OQP.
This was our first attempt at mobile contesting. Dan and I agreed that it was
great fun and worthy of another try next year. We put almost 500 miles on the
NZ van that activated 17 counties, made almost 600 Q's and killed one muffler.
For those of you with IC-706 or FT-100 type radios this is a great
opportunity to go on a very inexpensive "dxpedition." Contests like the OQP and the
PaQP in a few weeks offer a great chance to generate pileups with each new
county.
NCC Activity Program proposal-- It's been suggested that the club institute
some type of awards program to stimulate activity. On the table is a program
that would be aimed at Single Op score contributions over the span of a
calendar year. For our first year the program would count scores contributed for the
2003 ww ssb, ww cw and ARRL 10m contest. Scores would be only compared to
other HP or LP entries. Trophies (or placques) would be awarded to the highest
total HP and highest total LP operator. Certificates would be awarded to 2nd
and 3rd place in each category. If anyone has comments or questions please
post them to the NCC reflector for discussion by the group. The program
guidelines/rules will be finalized prior to WW ssb in October.
73,
Ron, K8NZ
