>From Tom K8AZ (tlee at TAFTLAW.com):

Fellow contesters:

I am very sorry to announce that Bruce Knox, W8GN, died today at 9:15
a.m., following a brief hospital admission for shortness of breath.
The preliminary cause of death is said to be a pulmonary embolism. He
was 49 years old.

Bruce, the president and founder of RF Applications and several other
technology-based companies, was an active contester, frequently
participating at the K8AZ multi-op efforts, and always a top finisher
in the California QSO party. Bruce was also well-known for his
low-band efforts in Field Day for the LCARA radio club.

Bruce's contributions to the K8AZ station were enormous. He designed
and built several of the stack switching boxes, designed a creative way
to remotely monitor current on the prop-pitch rotors, frequently helped
in the repair and rebuilding of amplifiers, and was my partner in the
(ultimately disappointing) Force-12 2L80 project. His optimism, high
spirits, vast technical knowledge and creativity and general all-round
good guy demeanor cannot be replaced.

As of this writing, services were tentative, but likely will occur on
Monday, April 4, with the family receiving visitors on Sunday, April 3.

He leaves a wife and several children. He will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, old friend.

Tom, K8AZ
