Fellow NCC Warriors and Fellow MRRC Members:
The support for Ron and his family expressed Saturday night, both at my open house and at the MRRC party at K8MR's was truly stunning. In just those two events, we raised nearly $2,000. The message that sends to the family -- and to the contest community as a whole -- is a message of true brotherhood.
I left Ron a voice mail Saturday night, telling him about the Fund and its support for him and his family. When he called Sunday morning, he told me he was completely overwhelmed by the significance of this action. Simply put, he could not believe it. We can all be proud: we touched his heart, we gave him strength to carry on and we made a difference. We did it right.
There was a private service in Seattle Sunday afternoon, organized by the Sierra Club. I know that even though attendance was by invitation only, Danny, K7SS and Ward, N0AX were planning to be there. Ron also told me that there will be a memorial service in Cleveland on the afternoon of January 19 at Penitentiary Glenn in the Lake Metroparks (where Shannon once worked).
On behalf of Ron, Angela, Melissa and the rest of the family, thank you for letting the contesting community's voice be heard and its support felt.
If you did not have the opportunity to give and wish to do so, the Memorial Fund continues to accept contributions. Reno, WT8C, answered the call and has not only set up the Fund, but is also acting as Treasurer and taking care of all of the paperwork. The family will be informed of the names of all who contributed. Contributions should be made payable to "Shannon Harps Memorial Fund" and sent either to Reno or, if you prefer, directly to the bank.
