To the NCC Warriors:
On Sunday, Jan. 20, K8NZ and his family hosted a memorial for his late daughter, Shannon, at Penitentiary Glen in the Lake MetoPark in Kirtland, Ohio. The setting was fitting: a snow-covered lodge in a nature preserve on a bitterly cold January day. More than a hundred friends -- including many hams -- attended this celebration of Shannon's life. A series of speakers honored Shannon. telling us about her incredible influence on her family, her friends and co-workers and, more importantly, upon the environment which she treasured so much. Her life was cut short, but it undeniably had true meaning and true impact -- and everyone at the memorial felt that. And no one who attended the memorial will think of "tube socks" without thinking of Shannon and her subtle, sly prankster side.
Ron asked me to convey to the NCC, MRRC and FCG membership, and to all the other members of the contest community who have expressed support, how meaningful it has been that our brotherhood reached out in the family's time of need. The Shannon Harps Memorial Fund established by NCC has already raised more than $2,800 to support the family -- a truly incredible amount. This will help ease the family's burden by defraying some of the significant expenses this tragedy has thrust upon them. And by doing so, we have lent support in a way that will be remembered. Ron also made it clear that he intends to respond personally to each and every contributor -- but that he will not be able to do so until some time after he returns to Florida, which is unlikely until February.
This is not a solicitation. But if you still want to contribute, the fund for Ron and his family is being handled by WT8C, and the contact information is as follows:
