With reason to be in the Youngstown area for the NCC dinner on Friday
evening, June 15, I find it may be feasible to follow up on Saturday with a
ride through West By-God Virginia for the West Virginia QSO Party. Might
anyone out there be interested in joining me, either as a driver or sharing time
behind the wheel and behind the radio?
The WVQP runs from noon to 10pm EDT on Saturday. The plan would be to start
at the northern tip across from East Liverpool and end up on I-79 as close
as possible to the PA line south of Pittsburgh. That would be two hours
or so from Youngstown/Sharon. Exact route in between yet TBD.
The WVQP is not a high profile competitive contest, but with some decent
conditions, decent mobile activity (i.e. us), and the county hunting crowd
it can be fun. Several years ago K3LA and I did about six hours in it on the
way home from the W3LPL open house in MD, and averaged about 120 qsos/hr
for the time we were on.
Let me know if you'd like to enjoy a scenic ride around WV and the first
hand experience of mobile contesting!
