Tom et al,

Interesting about the link with 'ZDF'.......FWIW, Doc and I go way back and
in fact, one of Doc's original Telrex antennas came from upstate NY.
Somewhere, I have a photo of a 20M546 sitting on top of my '70' red Malibu
on a delivery mission to Grove City on our way to Dayton in maybe 1971 or
1972?

I have a few Doc stories that are only fit for direct face-to-face telling,
so I can't repeat them here. "Legendary" may not be quite the correct term!

As usual, we are making a trek to Southern IN for the holidays and have a
remodel project going here too, but if it works out, we'll certainly try to
make it this year to the AZ open house.

Congrats to the AZ team! and great holidays to all:

Subject: [NCC] AZ Open House/Annual NCC meeting

This will come as old news to our long-time members .... but might be a bit
of a surprise to our newer Rochester contingent.....

This year will be the 26th annual K8AZ Open House, on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Traditionally folks drive in between 3 and 5, we eat pizza and appetizers
and there is the annual NCC meeting (including election of officers) at the
meeting that starts at 7 pm.

This event was actually started in 1987, when the late (and legendary) Doc
Schiller, ex-KN8Z, WA8ZDF, etc., announced that he was coming for a tour --
with his entourage in tow. Thus was born the "pre party party" that led up
to the annual MRRC year-start party hosted by Jim, K8MR at his house in
Orange Village. The two events have been in tandem ever since, even after
a group of MRRC members left MRRC to form NCC.

In any event, the open house this year will start at 3 pm at my house in
Chesterland. (If you're looking at a map, you'd drive on I-90 west until
I-271, take I-271 south to the first exit, and I'm about 5 miles from
there.) We're hoping to entice another brave contingent from Rochester to
come down again this year, and I'd be happy to check out prices for nearby
lodging -- and could manage to board one or two guys here. And, of course,
we're also hoping for a strong turnout from the local NCC contingent.

This party is always a high point of the contest mid-season and we're hoping
to see LOTS of NCC'ers here then. And we'll have elections at the meeting
-- and likely a few surprises too.

Please email any questions. Hope to see lots of the gang here on January 4.

73,
Tom, K8AZ
NCC President
