Subject: [NCC] NAQP CW Saturday August 2 - First Reminder
Hi Everyone,
Only two weeks and three days to the August NAQP CW! It's time to make plans to get on. It's also time to think about the team competition.
As a reminder, the contest begins at 2 PM local on Saturday and runs for 12 hours. Stations may operate for only 10 of the 12 hours, so it's not a big burden. It's a fast-paced contest with lots of activity. Mults count per band so you will maximize your score by operating on all six bands and working as many mults as possible on every band. This is an excellent contest in which to practice SO2R and mult moving.
Last year, we registered five MRRC/NCC joint teams (five ops per team) and two of them made the top ten, placing fourth and tenth. No other club managed this feat. I hope we will have similar or even better participation this year. Can we put together a team that will make the top three this time? You can see last year's results as well as previous results at www.ncjweb.com.
Last year I proposed a "earn your place" system for our teams whereby the top scorers in one NAQP would be placed on the same team in the next NAQP. The Northern California Contest Club and some other clubs seem to use such a system, which I think explains why they do so well. However, sometimes our top scorers can't operate the next NAQP or can only operate part time, etc. so this year I'd like to be a little more flexible and put together teams based on who seems most likely to achieve the highest score based upon past performance and operating plans (casual operating, part time, full time, etc.). Inevitably this will be somewhat arbitrary but I will do my best to put together the best teams I can. If you have a better idea for putting together winning teams, let us know what it is.
Please let me know your plans for operating and I'll register the teams just before the contest begins.
73,
Hal W1NN NAQP CW Whip
