Field day again at the Iowa "farm" is always really fun. Better results
this year, I got the antenna up pretty good, nearly 60', with a $6 dollar
slingshot and a $17 dollar fishing setup from Walmart. Operated about 18
hours, had to take time to copy the FD message (twice) during the "event"
and a storm front going through at about 1am nudged me into shutting down
for the night.
The equipment rental place in Waterloo (about 50 minutes away) didn't have
the 2000i I had reserved, so they "gave" me a 3000is. Really nice
generator, but I had to use the tractor bucket to get it out of the Subaru
and into place. Running totally on the ECON mode, it only used maybe 2 gal
max for the entire time.
The noise stayed low during the day, and only really used the Beverages on
80. Evening on 40 also as the storm approached. Last year I needed the
Beverages on the higher bands too, but getting the antenna up in the air
maybe made a big difference.
