Comments:
Apparently I was operating a different contest from many others because
I did
not find conditions so great and certainly not as good as in the recent Stew
Perry contest.
I was pretty busy with other things this weekend so I was only on for
around 8
hours and missed most of the EU opening on the first day, but I did spend
several hours on Saturday night trying to work EU and SA but I didn't
have much
success. I ended up with only 13 EU stations, including just one DL and
one F. I couldn't get any station in the UK or Spain to hear me,
including a couple
that I easily worked in December. UA and UR were easy to work in
December but
only one this time. In the Stew I worked 45 EU. Not whining, mind you, just
reporting my experience.
In general, the band seemed poorer to the east but better to the west
for me. In the Stew, I worked half a dozen Eastern Canada sections but
this time only
LB. But I worked a lot more CA and West Coast than in the Stew.
Unfortunately
nobody in SA could hear me except for YV1. CX, CE and LU were louder than I
have ever heard them but I never even got a ? from any of them despite many
calls. Maybe summer QRN there?
It was nice to work all states except for ND, AK and HI. No VE5 or VE7.
My station: A single K3 barefoot to a dipole at an average height of around
45-50 feet.
Despite the frustrations, it was lots of fun! Nice to work lots of
friends and
lots of calls that I do not hear in other contests.
73, Hal W1NN remote in Tokyo
