I suppose it was inevitable, but I have to admit to being a little sad
to see the QSO number replaced by signal report. QSO numbers made the
contest a little more challenging and challenging to me means fun. I
certainly struggled with serial numbers during my many solo mobile
efforts. It was very difficult for me to remember what serial number I
sent to the last station, especially when operating while driving, and I
tried various things to help. One year I bought one of those hand
counters that advance one digit every time you push the button, and
mounted it near my paddle, but often I couldn't remember if I pushed the
button or not. It's probably a lot safer to use signal report if you
want to drive and operate at the same time.
Any ideas what I can do with my old counter?

Comments:
Not much time for this one since I had just returned from nearly 2.5
years in
Japan, but I have many fond memories of my mobile operations in past
Michigan
QSO Parties so I always make an effort to get on.
During the times I was on, 40 meter skip was quite short and MI stations
were
pretty strong. 80 was also good for the short distance from Medina to MI.
