A wise decision for the reasons listed.
However, Saturday January 15 is a bad time for any sort of meeting - the North America QSO Party - CW will be running then.
Sunday evening would work much better. The ARRL January VHF SS will be going on, but that is generally a sleep producing event.

To the NCC Warriors (with a copy to the members of MRRC):

Happy New Year to all.

Per my 12/23 message to the members of NCC, many of you are aware that I
was having concerns about resuming the K8AZ Open house in January, 2022,
given the recent and increasing rise in COVID-19 infections and
hospitalizations.  I requested comments and suggestions about moving
forward with festivities in that email.  I did receive several thoughtful
comments -- but none supported actually conducting things as tentatively
scheduled.

I know that most of the usual attendees of the open house are at or near
the critical age, and some also have other conditions that warrant
additional concern.  And, frankly, in the last two weeks, the numbers have
gotten worse, not better.

Although the newer Omicron strain appears to be less severe and less deadly
(although perhaps more contagious) than the Delta strain, saying that
conducting that the party would "only" risk putting folks in quarantine or
in the hospital (and not actually killing them) does not strike me as a
compelling reason to gather together a bunch of old(er) hams into a smaller
closed space and share with them finger food, dips, nosh and slow-moving
air.  So, with significant regret, I am canceling the 2022 K8AZ Open House.

To the NCC members:  We will likely arrange for a Zoom meeting of NCC,
tentatively the afternoon or evening of January 15, with a final date and
time to be confirmed once I huddle with K3LR.
