Report from Radio Station NJ3K on the CQ WW CW. I operated as my usual
Low Power, Single Operator, Assisted. For what it's worth here are my
comments.
I thought conditions Friday night were poor. 20, 15, and 10 were pretty
well dead as can be expected. I was a little surprised at 20 being dead
as I had hoped to work a few there. 40 and 80 were the only bands that
had any activity so I stayed there until 0300 local time.
After 4 hours of sleep (I am 74 years old so staying up 48 hours is very
difficult) I got back on at 0800 local Saturday morning. I went to15 and
10 and things were better but still not great. Saturday at 1300 local
things started to pick up a little. I went to 20 and did okay. But still
nothing to get excited about. Sunday at 0700 local I had a good run on
10 for 3 hours or so. (Now remember my little peanut whistle station is
a long way from loud, so a good run for me would be a disaster for the
big guns.) Around noon Sunday I went to 15 and did pretty good for a
couple of hours. Sunday morning and afternoon 20, 15 and 10 were what I
had wished for. As conditions changed with the sun going down, I swung
the Yagi South and worked a bunch of the Caribbean and South American
stations. Pointing the beam north and picked up a bunch of JA's and a
BY. Also added a few from the South East Asian area. The final 3-4 hours
were difficult as I was on 40, but at least conditions on 40 were back
to normal and I could work the EU okay, where Saturday EU in the evening
was pretty well dead.
