First off, thanks to K3LR and N8AMY for putting this together. 36
members and guests had a great time socializing and eating wonderful
summertime staples of burgers and dogs. We then polished off a
celebratory cake honoring Katie. A tribute for her winning the "Young
Ham of the Year" award and to wish her well as she prepares to embark on
a 10 month stay in Germany. The weather cooperated - no rain and not
too hot/humid. Perfect for sitting under the tent and visiting with
friends.
The only real business of the club was a vote to authorize the executive
committee, namely the Prez and VP, to spend up to $1000 per year to
sponsor plaques. Generally, these are contest awards for winning a
contest. You know, like the ones all over K3LR's walls. Those things
usually cost around $70 which covers the plaque and the shipping.
Rationale for this pre-approval came about after NCC recently lost an
opportunity to sponsor a couple plaques due to our slow response to the
offer. Another club beat us to it!
WRTC support was discussed, but we tabled the idea of sending more money
right now. A couple of our well-connected members will be speaking with
the sponsors and they will ascertain how the fundraising is going. If
it's deemed appropriate to send more money, we'll use our on-line
communications facilities to hold a fund raiser.
Speaking of funds, the hat was passed and $900 was added to the
treasury. Today's balance is $3041.92.
