Here's YOUR next Antenna Project:

  

Click on this antenna array used by the Russians and known as the woodpecker. I am sure a few of you or all of you had a few brief encounters with this thing. It was popular during the 60's and 70's and raised a bit of havoc. It was also know by its application, as the over the horizon radar. It was aimed over the N pole and watched for missile launches from the USA. 

The array was fed with several transmitters, 75KW each. With the gain of the antenna the effective radiated power was approx 2 mega watt. The antenna directivity was steerable by phasing the array.
