Doug and I had a great time at the Orlando Hamcation on
both Friday and Saturday. It rained all day Friday so we
couldn't set up the beams which were to be mounted on a
satellite trailer. So we worked the birds via my remote in
Cleveland.
Saturday brought better weather and we installed the antennas
so we could work the birds locally. A big thanks to WB8K who
worked us on the new Chinese bird HO-68 on SSB. Denny is an
old timer at operating the birds but hasn't been on much until recently.
It was good to hear a voice from home.
There was a lot of interest in satellites and we got to meet some
of the people we have been working on the birds including KP4WES who
is 10 years old and lives in Puerto Rico. He comes from a family of
hams; his dad is WP4T.
We spent virtually all of our time working at the AMSAT tables and
really didn't get a chance to look around the hamfest. But that way
you don't spend money on things that you don't really need.
Hope the winter is not that bad for everyone. It has been cold here
in Florida, the 5th coldest January and the 4th coldest February so far.

John K8YSE
