Naomi Marie Houston, 97, of  Mansfield, died Sunday, October 31, 2010. Born 
Jun 17, 1913 in  Mansfield, she was the daughter of William and Marie 
(Whipp)  Hammett. A lifelong resident of Mansfield, Naomi graduated in 1931  from 
Mansfield Senior High School and retired after 30 years as a  pianist for 
the Ethyl Battin Dance Academy. She was a member of the  First Presbyterian 
Church, Grotto Auxiliary, The Women's Club, Chi  Sigma Sorority, National 
Auxiliary to sons of Union Veterans of the  Civil War, and Ruth Chapter #17 
Eastern Star. Naomi was also a  member and pianist for AARP, past President and 
Woman of the Year  for the Business and Professional Women, and presiding 
judge for  Mansfield Ward 3 precinct E. A lifelong pianist, she was "Musical  
Molly" playing the piano and singing during high school and later  for the 
former radio station, WJW on the top floor of Richland Bank.  Naomi was also 
a pianist for musicals at the Mansfield Playhouse and  other organizations 
in the Richland County area. In her free time,  she loved gardening, an avid 
BINGO player, cooking, the performing  arts and watching her children, 
grandchildren, and  great-grandchildren participate in performances and 
activities.  

She is survived by her daughter, Janeen Mabee Hire;  daughter-in-law, Susan 
Houston (Bob) Miller; grandchildren, William  R. "Rusty" (Karen) Mabee II, 
Michelle (Steve) Zawadzki, Jennifer  Mabee-Bookwalter, Kassandra (Dan) 
Higey; great grandchildren,  Kaitlin, Megan and Colin Mabee, Chase and Paige 
Zawadzki, Tory  Bookwalter, and Madison and Hannah Higey; niece, Direnda (Larry) 
 Carroll; nephew, Jack (Mary Ann) Pollock; 10 great-nieces and  nephews; 
and close friends, Leslie Lancy, Martha Boyd Alexander  (Joe) Schivinski; and 
Lou (Tony) Koraknay. Along with her parents,  she was preceded in death by 
her husband, E.J. "Bud" Houston, Sr.;  son, E.J. "Bud" Houston, Jr.; brother, 
Robert (Jean) Hammett;  sister-in-law, Lanora (Howard) Pollock; son-in-law, 
William Ronald  Mabee; son-in-law, H. James Hire; nephew, David Pollock; 
niece,  LaDonna Hammett; and nephew, William Hammett. 

Friends may call Friday, November 5, 2010 from 4:00-8:00  p.m. at the 
Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S.  Lexington-Springmill Rd., 
Ontario. A musical celebration of her life  will be held at 10:30 a.m. on 
Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the  First Presbyterian Church, 399 S. Trimble Rd., 
Mansfield. Friends  may also call one hour prior to the service from 
9:30-10:30 a.m. and  an Eastern Star service will be held at 9:15 a.m. at the 
church.  Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may  be 
made to the E.J. "Bud" Houston, Jr. Music Fund in memory of Naomi  Houston 
at the First Presbyterian Church, 399 S. Trimble Rd.,  Mansfield, OH 44906.
