Don't give up just yet.  A few months ago I got an email asking about,  and 
then a QSL, for a 1982 QSO I made from VP2EU. Fortunately I had some blank  
cards still around, and he got his contact confirmed 29 years after the  
QSO.

p.s. And don't give up on VHF. As noted by many others, that with the  
exception of a few months at the peak of a good cycle, you don't need no

Al,  just how old are your 10 meter contacts?  Just this week I received 
two  qsl's from 1999 that I hadn't sent back then.  A 9V and and EP came back  
with a 30 day turnaround.
