Cleveland Metroparks Natural Resources Division would like to contact
interested ham operators for potential assistance volunteering to work
with a long term VHF wildlife tracking project (position determination
by triangulation, no actual viewing of subject wildlife will be
allowed). Certain animals will be outfitted with transmitters which will
emit a CW signal and their locations plotted at time intervals varying
from daily to several times per week at varying hours. Equipment like
the Icom R-20, Kenwood TH-F6A, etc capable of receiving CW is very
adequate. Some commercial telemetry receiving equipment and small
handheld yagis may be available to those able to commit to on-ground
telemetry checks on a specified schedule. Potential volunteers would
have to complete a formal interview process, and those selected would be
required to register as volunteers and complete a standard background
check required by all volunteers of Cleveland Metroparks. The initial
deployment of transmitters would be on Cleveland Metroparks reservations
in the Parma area but may expand. Please contact Terry Robison,
tlr at clevelandmetroparks.com, or call 440-331-8524 for information.
