Yesterday, I came out of our local Radio Club's Monthly Breakfast and heard a Radio
Talkshow Host discussing how a "Radio Engineer" with Leukemia did research and
experimentation on his own Cancer. This research led to a method of using RF energy
to cook and kill Cancer cells.
I said to myself, "Wait, I know this story and this guy!!" Sure enough, it was about a Ham
from Erie, PA, and Founding Member of the North Coast Contesters, John Kanzius K3TUP!
The research is picking up steam and an organization has been formed to focus attention
and funding on John's discoveries which could lead to the improved treatment and
possible cure for various Cancers. The Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation is a
non-profit organization made up of a group of dedicated individuals supporting ongoing
research for the Kanzius Noninvasive Radiowave Cancer Treatment. More information:

I went to the Talkshow Host's web site and found a nice video that they put together on
K3TUP & his quest: http://www.glennbeck.com/2011/12/08/how-to-donate-kanzius-cancer-research-foundation
(Politics aside, please.)
60 Minutes did a 16 minute segment on the research and a followup:

CBS News did a segment on John's research:

The Kanzius Research Foundation is having its First National Conference next week
and here is more information:

John died of his Cancer in 2009 before his research could help him, but his dedication
and efforts on behalf of others lives on through his Foundation. His discoveries are
showing great promise and human testing will begin in the next few years. Yet again,
we see proof that our hobby is much, much more than playing with radios.
73, Bob - K8BL
P.S. When you watch the videos, you can see many pieces of John's Ham gear
involved with his experimental setups and even hear a keyer being used to pulse
the RF that heats the materials.
