Some useful information.
On mine I had used the Heil cloth cover which at least stopped the flaking plastic from the Yamaha headset. This one here seems a bit more elegant.
And Pilot Mall is not the same as Pilot Truck Stops, which do often have an amazing amount of connectors and other potentially useful junk.

Subject: [cwops] Replacing ear cushions on Yamaha CM500
All: Those of you who use Yamaha CM500s have no doubt discovered that the ear cushions deteriorate quite readily. I found a good replacement for them from Pilot Mall (www.pilotmall.com). It is designated “Headset Replacement Protein Leather Ear Seals.” They cost $10 plus $3 postage. First, you remove the old deteriorated ear cushions by pulling at one point along the periphery until it exits the headset slit, then continuing to do so until it is free. You may have to cut portions off where it is adjacent to a headset wire. When you get the new ear cushions, place a small amount of super glue around the inner circumference of the smooth side and then orient and press it onto the headset. That’s it. When you’re done, it looks like this…
Works great and much better quality than original ear cushions.
