Hi,

I am sending this to the FT8 users. This question came up during the
K8FF net tonight.

The official statements about "<...>" in receptions are in the WSJTX
User Guide

<

section 7.5 and are not very informative in my opinion.

But you can also download the manual  "FT8 Operating Guide" version
V2.37   from Gary Hinson ZL2iFB:

and read chapter 11 "Special Callsigns" which will explain all the
theory.  An important section is 11.4 about hashing.  I recommend you
read the whole chapter even if some of the theory means little to you.
In fact the whole document is an excellent accompaniment to the official
WSJTX User Guide.

(If you download the Hinson document V2.30 or other version, you need to
find Chapter 10.)

Stay Safe!
