Hello,

If you are running Windows 10 and you haven't checked out gaming mode
that likely  is automatically ON in your computer, you may find that
many CPU cycles are wasting away in that never never land.  On FT8/FT4
that could be important.  Below is a quotation from the following
website. Note:  I can't give you a number on how much CPU time is lost
to gaming mode while you are actually not using it.

You can turn off gaming mode by going to Settings->Gaming and turning
OFF all features you don't use.

https://www.digitalcitizen.life/game-mode-windows/

where it says that

"If you use Windows 10 May 2019 Update or newer, you should know that
the Game Mode is enabled by default.

When enabled, Windows 10 prioritizes processor and graphics card
resources to your game. Game Mode can also stop Windows Update from
installing drivers updates, or showing notifications during gameplay.
Hopefully, that might be enough to keep the frame rate stable and
provide you with a more “consistent gameplay experience.” The Game Mode
is not designed to increase the highest framerate on high-end hardware."
