[Orion] New to list, Orion on the way, Input please!

The "bad" reviews are largely from those surprised that any ham rig has a learning curve. Yes - you will need to spend some time actually learning to use the Orion. It won't take long if you are methodical, and you will be a lot happier with the best ham rig on the market if you do. 

So read through the manual after you get it hooked up and familiarize yourself with all the various and sundry controls, buttons, and menus. Pay special attention to the AGC settings and start with the "prog" and play with that until you pretty much know what the settings do. And don't! 

Get a BIG notepad, make yourself a "cheat sheet" of the settings that seem to work best for you. Sooner or later you will need it, you might as well start off making notes of how things are and how you change them. It makes getting back to square one a whole lot simpler. 

And after you get your Orion set for your operating tastes and situation - it will be a long time before that silly grin goes away!
