You don't need to worry about it.  T-T Update automatically puts the PC's 
serial port (or USB/serial port)  in the correct mode.

You don't need a hardware serial port.  USB converted ports work just 
fine.  I posted in another email the converters I use from Calbes To Go, 
which have been largely glitch free.
