I am using a Heil Goldline in my Orion. I used it for sometime without
a
problem and then it went "south".

I found the paint on the mike case had worn enough to finally make
contact
with the mike case grounded connector clip. "You" would think having
the
mike case grounded (connected) to the radio case would be good... It
was
not!

I opened the mike (removed the connector) and found a case connection
for
one of the mike wires. I disconnected the ground to float the mike
leads
(balanced feed) and all has worked fine for the Orion I and II.

I did the same to my GM-5. The microphone is now wired exactly as
suggested in the Orion manual and works fine.

Perhaps some valuable information for Orion 565 newcomers.

I bought a new Heil Studio One for my Orion and I already owned a Heil
Proset (HC4), and an HM-10 (HC4/HC5). The Studio One and HM-10 are boom
mounted and have Heil cables. All should have been right from the
box....yes? Well no actually (and as someone with professional broadcast
engineering experience in my resume.... shame on me).
