[RFI] RE: Other 70 cm signals

Peter,

The other signals you have heard in the 70 cm band seem to be similar in
description to signals heard here in the Upper Midwest shortly after 9-11.
A number of us in a wide area (large portions of MN, IA, WI, IL, MO) have
heard those sweeps multiple times.  One ham made a digital recording, and
Ed, W1RFI, posted that in an earlier message.  In general, the signals
sweep from about 430 to 439 MHz.  I am not aware of the signals (presumably
radar) going above 440 MHz.  As you may recall, the AWACS aircraft have
been pressed into service in a "border patrol" function, and those aircraft
have a lot of radar aboard.

I looked around 433.92 MHz in my area and so far I've seen about six very
low level signals approx. -110dBM with very short duration bursts.

I listen to 432.100 MHz in the shack extensively and never noticed them in
this area.  I do often receive a signal here on the Jersey Shore that runs
from S1 to 30db over S9 sweeping across a broad range of frequencies.  It
sounds like some type of alien attack ( best guess it's military in
nature).
One day I'd like to find out exactly what it is...
