I have a wintertime phenomena, hearing S9+ local broadcast signals on 80/40/30 meter
bands with my IC775DSP and inverted vee. They come only in winter, at night,
especially when the propagation numbers are poor, and are strongest about sunrise
and are gone by 30 minutes after sunrise. And they don't always happen with these
conditions. The signals are at 10100, 10105, 7000, 7005, 3500, 3505 and every 5-10
khz across the entire bands.
I haven't spotted the transmitting locations yet, but there are no broadcast towers
within 5 miles of my QTH.
I don't get these on any higher frequencies, and can hear them with my 10 element
log periodic HF antenna, and with my IC706MKIIG, so am assuming it's not the
rig/antenna but perhaps a freaky propagation phenomena.
I put an IEC broadcast filter in the coax which attenuates the signals but they are
still loud and bothersome. No other ham here in Austin hears these broadcast
signals, so perhaps my location and odd propagation are the cause?
Any similar experiences or solutions out there?
