[RFI] BPL obsolete

Although BPL may be obsolete in most markets...
late entry, inadequate value proposition, etc. ...

You may have missed one important thing:

In the Penn Yann NY case, as in Manasas VA, the business
model includes rebating 10% of the revenue TO THE MUNICIPALITY.

It may be obsolete technology, but towns are universally short
of funding, and will line up for the money.

This is clearly a case where the FCC needed to set industrial
policy in a rational fashion. Instead, they followed the money
trail. That's what happens when you have lawyers making decisions
about technology. Nirvana, it ain't, Commissioner Abernathy.

I have been "reading the mail" on the subject of BPL. It seems a tragedy to
me
that this technology is still being considered. Especially because it is
already
obsolete!

Verizon has announce that it will offer high-speed wireless Internet service
to
much of the country this Summer.

73,

Alan, W4LKE

Yes, and NEXTEL is testing a similar wirless service that is 5Xs faster
than the Verizon product.

Maybe we should have some bumper stickers made up for hams that live in
BPL test areas that say something like....

WHO WOULD WANT TO BE TETHERED TO A POWER LINE WHEN WIRELESS IS AVAILABLE?
