[RFI] MFJ-805 RFI detector - Any good?

Save your money. Remember...it's made by MFJ. 

If you are searching for real power line noise, consider using a handheld
receiver/transceiver with wideband coverage and a 3 to 5 element yagi and a
piece of coax long enough to make it from the antenna to the radio clipped
on your belt or held in the other hand. 

Chances are you already own the radio. The antenna can be built a great deal
less than $90 and 3 to 5 feet of coax ain't costly. Building the antenna can
actually be entertaining. 

You will be able to pinpoint a pole or pad mount transformer or a house as
the source. Inside the house, use a rubber flex antenna as a proximity
detection method and you will likely find the source. If the source is
utility-owned call their customer care and ask for an interference
investigation. 

If you want to spend money, consider buying the National RF HFDF Vector Gun
and antennas. About $240 total. I'm going to write about that package in a
separate email shortly.
